History of the Nightingale Center
Dr. Lois Nightingale established the Nightingale Center in 1990 in Yorba Linda.
Dr. Nightingale has been at her current location since 1990 when it was owned by Yorba Hills Psychiatric Hospital. She pioneered and directed a postpartum program there. The facility was later purchased by Charter Behavioral Health where she was director of their Chemical Dependency program. Eastern Star is the current owner of the medical plaza. Because of her therapeutic strategies and commitment to the community, Dr. Nightingale now sees second and third generation clients at her office.
Dr. Nightingale knew she wanted to be a psychologist from a young age. She was licensed as a Marriage, Family, Child Therapist at 25 and a clinical Psychologist at 26.
Along with her private practice she speaks at conferences, authors books and journal articles, and does media interviews on psychological topics. She has been interviewed by Anderson Cooper, Tom Brokaw, Susan Powder, Jerry Springer, CNN's Soyna Freeman and numerous others. She has been a faculty member with La Leche League International and the Holmes School of Ministry. She has testified extensively as an expert witness and has done psychological testing for children and adults since 1982.
She is the proud mother of two adult children, and enjoys traveling abroad. For relaxation and rejuvenation, she races outrigger canoes on the Pacific ocean.
She believes that her enthusiasm for life is an important part of being an effective therapist.
Brief Therapy Focused on Lasting Results
Our goal is to empower you to solve the challenges disrupting your life now. We are focused on the solution, not the problem. Because the therapy we utilize is results oriented, the majority of our clients are in treatment between 6 and 12 sessions, usually beginning with weekly therapy sessions and then progressing to every other week and more infrequent appointments.
How does therapy work at the Nightingale Center?
When we meet with you we don’t just sit there, listen and nod. We provide step-by-step strategies to help you feel more in control of your life.
After compassionately helping you define your personal areas of challenge, we then work with you to develop a specific practical, individualized plan. This may include:
Up to date information and/or research about your problem.

Creative exploration and re-choosing of coping skills that no longer work.
Referrals to self-help resources, such as books, podcasts and groups to help you realize your dreams.
Homework assignments between sessions to expedite results.
